How to Root/Unroot/Install custom recovery on Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

The Xperia series is one of the best series that sony have launched.With its smart looks and awesome features Xperia X8 was the one who created a positive image about xperia devices on the customers mind.

Now lets go ahead and root the phone :-

Disclaimer: - I am a poor person :P and I won’t be held responsible for any damage to your phone. There is no guaranty that your device won’t brick. This is just a guide. So if you have a Heart of a Lion and a mind of a pirate than you can proceed with this guide.

Tools you need :- 

1. you will require Microsoft .Net Framwork 2.0 or above installed on your computer. Download it here.http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=5205
2. The battery percentage of your phone should be at least more than 75%
3. Back up everything.

Downloads you will need :- 

SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip

Rooting the phone :- 

1. Extract the downloaded file to the desktop.
2. Enable USB debugging from the developers option in settings.
3. Enable the installation of apps from unknown sources from Settings>Application>tick on the check box besides unknown sources.
4. Connect the device to PC
5. From the folder you extracted run the Super One Click.exe
6. Click on root.
7. Done !!!

Unrooting :- 

To unroot the phone follow the same steps as above till step number 5 and now click on unroot.

Flashing custom recovery:- 

1. Download xRecovery0.1.rar from the thread.
2. Install busybox on your device from the play store.
3. Extract the downloaded folder to desktop.
4. In the folder you will see 3 files (Busybox,Chargemon,xrecovery.tar)
5. Connect t he device and copy the first 3 files in your SD card.now disconnect the device.
6. Now install root browser lite from the playstrore on your device.
7. open root browser lite on your device.
8. Press and hold on the system folders to bring options.Then click on permissions.
9. Tick all the check box under write and now click OK.( Note down the chmod status before you change these,a number that you can see at the bottom of the dialogue box)
10. Now copy the three files to the sd to the /system/bin folder.
11. Hold and press on each files ,now again tick on all the boxes under read,write,execute columns.(The chmod number will be changed to 0777)
12. Go back to system folder and change back the permissions as they were previously.
13. Done! you have installed xrecovery on your phone.

How to access the recovery mode:- 

1. Switch off you device
2. Keep pressing the back button as soon as you see the Sony ericsson logo.
3. Use volume up and down to move up and down,Home button to select and the back button to go back.
